Abstract

Violence against women is a complex and multi-reason social problem. Almost all women are vulnerable to becoming victims regardless of age, culture, social and economic status. Stereotypes of violence against women are private or personal problems caused by wrong perceptions that prevent victims from getting recovery and justice. Meanwhile, studies on community perceptions regarding violence against women are still very limited. Methods: This study uses a mixed method research, combining qualitative and quantitative methods, with sequential explanatory research. Result: Perceptions of forms of violence against women are in a good situation, this is triggered by incessant socialization and public education. In the dimension of perceptions of who are victims of community violence which shows: victims of violence against women are other people, this condition reflects the view of society that violence against women is a problem of their situation, the perception dimension of victims of violence in Indonesian society perceives that the causes of violence are economic problems or poverty. Economic problems and poverty cannot be seen with the naked eye, while unequal power relations as the root cause of violence cannot be seen with the naked eye to understand this relationship which requires a deep analysis process. Conclusion: There is still a lot of homework to do to build the Government to straighten perceptions of violence against women. It is time for participatory education methods to be used to foster critical awareness in society so that they can clearly see social reality.
