Abstract

Strength-based model is the distinctive characteristic of social work compared to otherhelping professions. In the phase of assessment and intervention, clients’ spirituality is thestrength for social workers to take into account in practice. Spiritual dimension is essentialin understanding clients and addressing their problems as well as developing their spiritualgrowth. The problem is that it is hard to find forms of spirituality-based assessment andintervention. It is also not easy to implement spiritually sensitive practice by modifying theexisting assessment and intervention models because of the lack of capacity. For this reason, the author raises a number of models or approaches of such spiritually sensitive practice, especially in dealing with the elderly mental health, developed by the Western scholars. It isaimed at recognizing these forms as examples for Indonesian practitioners to learn. Then, they are expected to build their own formats which are suitable for their circumstances.
